Does any one here use eggcrates on the bottom of your tank? Do you have a spraybar behind it all?

If you have do not use this method how do you clean your tank without disturbing the live rock and the growth on the rocks?

Unless you put it on legges I would not use it. Each little square is a place for crap to settle.

But if you have your eggcrate raised on pvc and a spraybar that would keep all the crap being pushed to the front of the tank? Right?

I think would depend on the overall water flow pattern in the tank. If you didn't set it up just right it would be effective.

Raising rockwork up on plastic eggcrate with PVC supports under it would work fine, although most would have a problem with the aesthetics of this setup in a display tank. It's pretty common in frag growout tanks and LFS stock tanks though...

I have seen pics of tanks set up this way. A little time and well places rocks can make it really nice. I would just go for an open rock pile and not worry about the egg crate.

It'll look like ugly egg crate encrusted in coral. Unless you like the waffle-coral look I'd stay away from it. Sorry to be negative but I think that LDP (light diffuser paneling or egg crate) only belongs below the tank or out of sight.

when i set my last tank up i put all the rock on elevated eggcrate and really liked the current flow underneath the rock.
uneaten food would pass right under the rocks and re-emerge somewhere else where the fish could find it.
i couldn't get the whole thing to look right and finally compromised by raising the rock with pvc stands and using eggcrate in select areas. i still don't like the look but i know it can be done right, i just don't have the time or i lack the skill.
