I recently purchased a red sponge from my local fish store. They informed me that they are relativley easy to maintain for a beginner. After doing more research today it seems I was mis-informed.

Anyone out there have any experience or a second opinion. Thank you in advance.

It is a rental item that suppose to last for a few months in your tank, totally maintance-free until it dies. :(

There are a few of these fish store in SoCal area, so watch out.

I saw one at my LFS about a month ago, They tried to tell me the same thing.

I really want to trust the LFS but when they say stuff like this it makes me uncomfortable suggesting them to friends that are new to the hobby. Instead I have to tell them believe nothing you here from the stores until you cross reference it.

The LFS just sold a friend a prism skimmer for his new 50 G. reef
