My calcium...Its 350ppm which I thought was low considering I've been using catalina NSW....I have some kent liquid calcium..but it doesn't seem to raise the ppm much at all after 3 capfuls. I'm guessing I need to get some kalkwasser????

It's important to keep Ca and Alk in balance. Most people find this easier to do by maintaining Ca/Alk with a two-part additive, Ca reactor, Kalkwasser, etc. All provide Ca and Alk in balanced amounts.

So yeah, IMO it would be better to maintain it with the Kalkwasser. A two-part additive is even better IMO because it's safer than Kalk, but if you monitor pH carefully and learn how much Kalk your system can take without driving the pH too high, Kalk can be a very inexpensive (and balanced) way to maintain Ca/Alk levels.

Maintaining balanced Ca and Alk by dosing seperate Ca and Alk (buffer) supplements is more difficult IMO. Check out this site, it might be helpful:

Depending on your bioload, regular Bionic or Cbalance doses might do it for you. As Chris says, it's important to keep the chemistry in balance as opposed to pumping in a bunch of Calcium chloride. Try the two part additives, and supplement with kalk if your Ca is still deficient.
