Just taken the top off my RO/DI storage drum and found mold on the underside of the lid, will this cause problems in my tank as the autotop-off pumps out directly from here, plus my TDS has gone from 0 to 11.

Found out that my wife had taken the top off and taken some water out to top up her freshwater tank last week, going to invest in a large 125 gal from TSC sometime this week.

Any comments appreciated

IMO the two might be related (TDS & mold) and, then again, they might not.

As to the mold - possibly from phosphates leaching out of the plastic? If so, I'd be hesitant to use the water.

As for the TDS change - how did your wife get water out of the container? For example, if she used a container you had lying around that had salt on or in it, that contamination could raise the TDS of your RO/DI water although it would pose no problems if you used it. OTOH, maybe it's from the container leaching something - but if it's one you've been using long-term and never had a problem in the past I would say that's very unlikely.

I'd start by testing the output of your RO/DI unit with your TDS meter. You also might try a phosphate test on the water in the storage container.

When in doubt... ...throw it out! :D

Not sure if that helps...
