This is probably a stupid question, but truly what are the advantages of using RO/DI h2o. I have been using tap h2o and conditioning it with either prime or AmQuel+ wich both remove nitrate, nitrite, ammonia, cholrine and chloramines. I think that my lfstores sell water there, but im just unsure of what the real advantages are, and also does a UV sterilizer do the same thing as a deionizer would, is that what they use in the stores?

prime only removes those impurities stated above, RO/DI removes +/-98% of every impurity in your tap water. copper, phosphates and other things you don't want in your tank.

UV will kill live organisms. DI removes ionic molecules by exchanging them for other ionic molecules like OH- or H+ .

Actually AmQuel only "neutralize" the nitrogen compounds above, it does not remove it. Depends on your tap water quality (check out your Water Quality Report from you local water company), you may or may not need the RO.
