How to read test results correctly

Can someone tell me the right way that you are suppose to read your test results. Do you put the test tube up close to the color card or do you hold it back some or do you touch the test tube up against the card? I get a difference in color when I do it different ways.... Thanks in advance

Hey mermaid- Salifert kit right? I know if you hold it up against the paper it's darker . And What I do is kind of pull it back and forth you should be able to tell if it's darker or lighter. But I do it in good lighting.Hope this helps ..I know the PH kit is that way,but the calcium is drop by drop and you can see it when the color changes ect.

I generally hold it right against a white sheet of paper (most test cards have a white area) and then shine a cool (neutral) white fluorescent light onto it. It's usually pretty easy to match that way.

I have to say that I do really like the way the Fastest kits are made, however. They come with a little plastic chip you slide in beside the test tube and it's got colour graduations on the chip so you just match them side by side.
