I'm a little confused. When you say it's tough to get off the glass, do you mean it's hard like coralline? Or is it a soft hair algae? Have a pic by chance?
it eventually comes off the glass...on the live rock it looks like its hair like. I have one small hermit crab and one medium. It's only a 29 gallon tank so I can take out the rock and clean it..but thats a pain. I also have some of that dark red string stuff that looks like a blanket. I don't have any corals yet as the tank is only 3 months old. It seems like everyday theres splash marks on the glass of green algae.??? I don't have any pics as of yet.
Keeping nuisance algaes under control is generally finding a balance with nutrient import/export and having some grazing critters. Make sure you're using pure water for evaporation top-off (most of us don't have pure enough tap so we need to use an RO, RO/DI, buy distilled, etc.). Also, I noticed in the other thread that you use store-bought NSW. You might want to test it some time for Nitrates/Phosphates. I like having a few different species of snails in the tank too. Different ones tend to prefer different algaes so with a mix you can cover all your bases...
How old is your tank? Also, are you skimming? The "blanket" stuff sounds like cyanobacteria. Do a search here at RDO on it and it should fill you in a bit too.
Hang in there... it can be frustrating to begin with but the rewards will pay off...eventually.
