I have had my tank set up for about two years......its a 40L....inhabitants include 1 royal gramma, and 2 false clowns.

In the last six months I've added 2 firefish, four green chromis, and now a six line wrasse.....all died, (or trying to right now in the case of the wrasse).

What is going on? None of the fish seem to be bothering it.....I've watched the tank all day. the six line was hanging out in a particular area, but seemed to be doing fine. I go cycling for an hour, and the wrasse is stuck in a hole in the rock, panting. I netted it, and put it in a convalescent home by itself trying to save it.

My water params seem okay....

Amm 0
Nitrates 0
Nitrites 0
Phosphate trace

Sg 1.024
Temp 78-80

I just don't know what to do anymore - I'm tired of flushing money down the drain now....literaly...I'll probably be flushing the six line soon.

I didnt see a pH reading...have you tested that?

Are you sure you can rule out disease or any kind of parasite? Check the fish closely...look for any change in coloration, spots on the flesh, or around the mouth or gills...

Are you acclimating properly when you introduce? All fish should be acclimated at least an hour or more the correct way.

Are you feeding the proper diet according to species?

These are some possible causes. One more thing, wash your hands well before ever going into th tank. I had a friend years ago with a freshwater tank. He had a run of a bunch of dead fish that he wa clueless about. Turns out, he was spring cleaning, and was windexing some windows, wasn't thinking avbout it and while walking by his tank decided to move a couple of things around 8O

there's always the possibility that the deaths were co-incidental, not related, as well

Okay - I took a sample and the fish back to the lfs....they gave me the same test results, so its not the water, we agreed on that.

Another guy came over (he was a real ass on the phone) and looked at the fish. He claimed the fins were all chewed up, but when I asked to see where (because I looked for it while it was in the tank) he said that it wasn't easy to see.

I asked about the big swollen white line down the side....he dismissed it. They gave me another six line through their two day garantee. He said this one is not garanteed through.....

He is drip acclimating right now - been dripping for an hour now...and I plan to let it drip for at least another hour or two.

Then its going into a convalescent house for a day (with circulating water), and then into the tank tomorrow night.

I have a lfs close by that every fish I have ever gotten from them has died.I had them keep a lawnmower benny in a seperate tank at the store for 2 weeks before I brought it home. That fish was fine the first 2 days then just died. They know me real well at this store and neither of us can figure out why their fish die in my tank. Now I have gotten freshwater fish that have lived several years from them but saltwater you can forget about it.

I forgot to mention my previous experience with them. I have bought one fish from them - a false clown about a year and a half, two years ago, and he's doing just fine.

Like I mentioned - it did have a big vertical, white discolored stripe on its side.

This new one moved around in the bag, and acted more normal.

Still dripping :)

Robbie,

Consider taking your business elsewhere...there's no need for that kind of rudeness.

Keep us informed of the wrasse's progress!! :D

Cool fish, btw!

I agree - I don't beleive I'll be buying anything else from there......its too bad too - they carry a lot of good stuff that no one else does.....PC bulbs, more corals etc.

Moved the six line into a convalescent home, still adding water, in an hour or so it will have new water pouring in, but I think I'll keep him contained until tomorrow night.

sometimes the best thing to do when there's a 'mystery' 'wipe-out' is to not buy new fish for a month-the problem may solve itself

if you don't know what the problem is, the LAST thing i'd be doing atm is adding fish

I hate to say it, but I would be quarantining new fish for a month at least in a separate tank.

If the fish lived through that, but then died when you put it in your tank you would know it was the tank and not the store

just my opinion
