Hi Everyone,
I am totally new to keeping marine fish and wondered if people use fresh water dips as a part of introducing new fish to their aquariums?
If you do, how does the dip fit in with the acclimatizing process since one process is to gradually change the water and the other involves a sudden drop in salinity?
Any advice and people's own methods /experiences would be a great help thanks.

Anyways, I never do a fw dip on any fish that I put in my aquarium. I'm thinking that a quarantine tank is standard practice. Put your new fish (after floating the bag to even out the temp) into the quarantine tank for a LEAST 2 weeks.

I like to quarantine for 4 weeks as this is a life cycle for ich. It also allows me to watch the fish closely and ensure it is feeding well.

Looks like you've already got some good advice here. Personally I would not subject the fish to the stress of a freshwater dip without a reason. A 4 to 6 week quaratine in hyposaline conditions would be my preference.
