Perhaps, I'm not doing this right because the last time I posed a question, a few poeple looked at I never got a response. I have a new question now. I'm considering a protein skimmer for my new 72 gallon Oceanic Reef Ready tank. I was considering the Euroreef RS 80 versus the RS 100 as I've heard good things about this brand. If anyone out there has an opinion, I'd like to hear it. If you think, I'd be better off looking at another brand, I'd like to hear that too.

Thank you.

From what I know about protein skimmers is just get the biggest one you can afford. I'm not sure about the brand, but I've seen a few people use it.

Thanks for all the replies. I had talked to my local LFS. The owner said that he stopped selling the RS 100 because it has no real advantage over the RS 80. They both use the same pump. Further, he said the air flow was a litle lower for the RS 100 model. Can anyone comment on that? :?:

Realistically the performance should be fairly close with those two. Since they use the same pump and are of similar height, I have a hard time believing there is any difference in air intake. The 100 should be slightly better because it has a larger reaction chamber, but again, the performance difference is probably slight.

Another option to consider in this price range would be this Orca skimmer which is basically a DAS/Deltec design. I would expect it to outperform either of the Euros mentioned.

Save your money and grief. Buy from a well known Manufacturer. I have one of their (protein0smikker.com) HOB Profuge setups. The intake broke 6 months after I got it and they dont respond to emails asking for replacement purchase. of course, it's not standard piping, it's custom made so I cant find it anywhere. I may have to drill myself and fix it. man...never again will i support small businesses. I'd rather pay more and get support.
