:?: I'm still in the process of building my 75 (still waiting for live rock) - In the meantime, I would like to start my Quarantine tank. I purchased a JBJ 12 Gallon nanocube DX for this purpose. I finally got my RO/DI unit up and running yesterday and would like to fire up the nano. Since it will mostly be void of livestock except for the newbies which will come and go, I was considering leaving the ceramic rings and sponges in the back. I will be running the unit without lights when there are no critters in it. It will be bare bottom and empty except for a few PVC elbows and tubes. I will be cycling the sponge in my 75 to keep it rich with bacteria. Can anyone think of a down side to leaving these items in place?

Thanks!

I think you should leave them in place.

Once they are established with bacteria, you should be good to go for when you want to Q-t a new purchase.

I keep my QT running all the time. I'll shut it down when I don't plan on adding more stuff. It's just easier to keep it running.

I do have some sponges in my sump in case I need to set up future QT tanks quickly. They're nice and cultivated with bacteria now :)
