You may have seen some my posting questions for 120 gallon tank. Here is another. I am in the planning stage of setting up my 120 gallon tank.

What is good in-sump return pump for 120 Gallon tank that is 30 inch tall on 30 in tall aquarium tank. Tank will be mostly sps. Also it will be great if its energy saver with low wattage.

I have decided to do the following:

- 120 Tenecor Acrylic Tank 48x18x30 inch Tall.
( I am stuck with this tank, was used for freshwater setup before )

- 48 inch Aquatinics T5 ( TX5 or Solar Flare )

- Lifereef prefilter overflow ( I am going to drop idea of drilling it )
Going to filter sock in a DIY Plastic sump.

- Maybe use or new skimmer, looking at ATI BM160 or H&S 150
( trying to stay with skimmer pump that use around 22 watts )

- Return pump going into Return J-Tube way into the tank

- Two Koraila 4 powerhead

I was debating whether to get the aqua silencer. Like the idea of having the prefilter sponge on the overflow. Jeff from lifereef mention I may not need it, if I use flow regulator on the return pump. Is is really loud in your setup?

This brings up another question, I am debating whether to have my tank drilled with overflow, such as Durso or go with lifereef overflow. Seems pre-drill internal overflow is better, but I will have to hire right help to do this. Then there is additional plumbing with Durso.

do not go with the overflow just get it drilled on the back side and put pvc with a strainer angled.. for the pump you can go with pretty much anything the eheim is a good choice. i use a external gen x pump on my 120 gallon. you dont want to much flow from the return pump cause the water will be running through ur sump pretty fast causing micro bubbles in the tank. thats why we have tunzes and vortechs for all the flow...
