I honestly don't know this corals exact name, so I can't even research it to try and find out what I can do to save it. But if you can tell me what I'm doing wrong i would appreciate it. 2 weeks ago it looked so vibrant now it looks like it's on the verge of dying and getting worse everyday. The fist pic was from about 3 weeks ago and the other pics are from today. Everything else in the tank looks better then ever. I tested my water last week and my nitrate levels were a little high so I did a water change and added some activated carbon to the sump. I am gonna do another round of testing tomorrow and will post the results.
thanks in advance:ANYWORD:

It was sold to me as a flower pot coral. The fish store guy knew I was a beginner but sold it to me anyways and gave me no warning. I'm not blaming him though It's what I get for not researching before buying. Anyway I moved him to a different spot and will continue to monitor it. It's wierd half the coral still looks great and the other half looks like a half eaten apple that was left on the counter to long it's all brown and discolored. I guess only time will tell I will keep u guys updated thanks for your help as always.

i picked up one of them at WWOF it was really nice with a ball under the arms and inflated fully. wne away for a few days and the #$#% hermits knocked it over and now some of the arms are not as full anymore. my occelaris clowns are hosting it. i moved it down to the sand floor further away from the light and it doesn;t open up more than 2 inches now will move it tomorrow back up to about 5 inches from top of tank where it was doing a lot better. also the house sitter i had shook my auto feeder and opened up the slot a little more and the food was dumped in giving a high nitrate level which i also attribute to the shrinkage. but i know that a heavier water flow also made it open up. no pro just telling you what i noticed. i also turkey baste with marine snow around it but WWOF had a bunch of them so maybe eddie has some better advice for you.

the part that has died out will not come back...hopefully the good part will continue to grow so don't move them around from tank to tank...if you it's tentacles extended, it likes the location, if not put it else where in the tank.

flower pot

Goni's are known as flower pots also and yes they are difficult to keep. Mine took some time to adjust, and there are times when it is fully closed up, but never like what your picks show. Good luck, it doesn't too good.

What lighting are your corals under (curiosity purposes)?

I have a 6 bulb t5 setup and just replaced the bulbs 3 days ago Man what a difference I love the fuji purple bulb it adds really nice color.

I got the coral from reef encounter in Hackensack. But I dont blame them they have always been good to me. It's my own fault for not researching, it was your classic ohh that looks cool ill take that one mistake. To be honest even if he told me it was difficult to take care of I may have still bought it. I believe it is sick because of all the movement when i changed tanks. It was doing great for months in my 55 but with the aquascaping and adding the 30+ gallons of new water i'm sure it's of my own doing. Thanks for all your responses for now it is holding on.

The red or purple ones are much hardier they like to be on a sandy bottom with strong light and current.
