I want to put a small fuge section in my sump that is enclosed in a stand.
I was thinking about using a high power screw in LED light for the lower heat generated.
Im thinking since it is enclosed in a tank stand it would keep things cooler.

I have seen some in the 6000 temperature, would that be enough to get some macro to grow?

Any opinions?

Fwiw I added a shop light from home depot. 6.99 plus a 65w bulb. That covered a 15x12 area. I used to run my fuge like that. I mean for 10 bucks u can't go wrong. I also grew cheata and culp. LEDs would look nice for sure.

i haven't seen any commonly available screw in LED bulbs that are very bright.
as for the amount of heat that a screw in, energy saver, fluorescent bulb emits, i don't think it's enough to matter.

Im not thinking about looks, Im thinking about operating expense and heat.

Incandescent is definitely out. It would be cheap to set up, but you pay for running it. And, in an enclosed area Im concerned about the heat build up, esp in summer.

I didnt think about CF bulbs, are there any that are strong enough to grow macro?

I had a Home Depot, clip on unit that I put a CF 75watt bulb in and the chaeto, seemed to grow alright. I reverted back to a T5 setup, which provide a better spectrum of light, and just in case I need to through frags down below.

i use a 23 watt 6500k energy saver bulb with a home depot clip on fixture as well.
how large is your refugium? mine is about 60 gallons so i now use a larger cf bulb, but when i used a partitioned 75 gallon tank the above mentioned setup worked perfectly.
