Ok, so I'm in the early planning stages of my tank upgrade and would like to know what I can do to avoid or minimize nuisance algae. When I started my 46g bowfront I used regular tap water and had a diatom explosion, so of course I will be using either ro/di or store bought water. I (think) I also learned to keep lighting to a minimum while the tank cycles, and I will be using a phosban reactor. Is there any other relatively sure way to avoid nuisance algae growth?

1) Use RODI with a good tds meter
2) Watch what you feed..thaw food in rodi
3) Watch how much you feed
4) Use a good GFO
5) Invest in a clorimeter for phosphates
6) A good cleanup crew....remember to add the gradually as well....and dont forget to replenish them as well....
7) good Flow...mp40 or tunze

Dont get crazy if you see some diatoms...it is a new tank my freind
