Need help ASAP - I think I blew my skimmer

PLEASE help ASAP - problem 1 solved, now i have another OVERSKIMMING

So i was cleaning out my skimmer and i guess the plug was a little wet when I went to plug it back in, i felt a slight jolt in my arm

i quickly unplugged it and dried it off, but now my skimmer wont turn on

I am assuming I fried the pump


any suggestions??

also heres the bigger problem I have to be out of town for work all weekend and i dont know if my tank will last without a skimmer for 3 days

the tank is fairly new, just finished the cycle a few weeks ago

I have a 125g tank with a 55g sump


what should I do

the pump on the reef octo skimmer is a psk-2500, does that have a fuse built in?

where is it plugged into, if its a wire strip sometimes they have breakers on them.

i unplugged it from that and have tried it alone in other outlets

unfortunatly the strip didnt trip, but the skimmer did

Try rotating the impeller while the pump is off. After a few rotations try plugging it back in.

I have a nautilus 36 if you want to borrow it but you have to pick up

ok somehow i got it on, but no matter how i adjust the tube its pulling too much water and white bubbles out

and its also spewing out micro bubbles

any ideas?

What's your bio load? A new tank shouldn't have that much in it. Do a large water change before you leave and feed lightly while gone.

Ok just did that, cleaned out the air tube on the skimmer as well

on the 125 I have 6 chromis and I added a few frags today

btw my cycles was fully complete before the chromis were added, not sure if that makes a difference


ok the biggest problem I am having now is that the skimmer is over setting, even on the lowest setting, but it isnt getting skimate its just taking out white bubble


do you think my tank could run for 3 days without a skimmer, and I could just do a huge water change when I return and then fix whatevers wrong with the skimmer?

Did you check all the piping to the skimmer if you are pulling air and it is going up and up and the skimmer is over flowing then check the return line

With the tanks small bioload your tank will be fine for a few days without the skimmer running.

yea i check and redid all the tubing

I have tried adjusting the valve, but it only gets worse


as for stock heres what I have:

200lbs LR
6 chromis
1 angel (not my choice, came with the live rock or he would flush it. other wise he wouldnt be in there at this point)

just added today:
a few monti cap frags
2 digitata frags
1 GSP colony
1 hammerhead colony


just to comfirm you think I will be ok for about 3 days like this?

i think u will be fine i have went without a skimmer on my 90 gallon for 2 weeks without a problem i couldve went longer So i think u will be fine as long as your filter is running and u have good water flow

Dude, go away for the weekend, no skimmer, dont worry about it a few days after a water change and 6 fish and few corals youll be fine. When you get home buy a new pump for the skimmer(even if you dont wind up needing it its good to have a spare) and devote a 1/2 day or day to workout the bugs. Youll be fine, chromis' are hearty fish.
