Pulling off Snails

I got some fairly large snails yesterday and had a difficult time detaching them from the bucket I used for dripping. I had to pull really hard and was afraid of pulling them out of the shells. The snails are all fine now but I'm sure there must be some technique I should know for next time. Advice? Thanks.

Hold firmly and twist in the direction the shells grow .

sliding up or down usually works as well

If you can make any contact with their flesh, they let go. So try to poke them with your fingertip as you're pulling on their shell.

I normally slide them up the side of the bucket right off the top.

slow n steady pulling will do the job. they will let go once they are out muscled.

move them around so that the opening for the shell touches the flesh. they will let go after a few touches
