I am currently running a twl reactor with active cabon media. I've just recently started adding livestock and have a small brown hair algae outbreak beginning to occur.

I'm wondering if I should switch from carbon media to phosgaurd or some other phosphate absorbing media in place of carbon. I do not have room for a second reactor and was wondering what the pros and cons would be of each.

50g
60 lbs live rock
55 lbs aragonite sand
ro/di water
hob aeroforce cpr skimmer

parameters look good.

Thanks

Thanks!

Thanks everyone. My phosphate levels have been around .1 forever and I'd really like to get these down before adding new coral.

So I'm in a bit of a predicament, do I replace the carbon in my reactor with something to remove phosphates and forgo all the benefits of carbon? Can I mix the two media together and have the best of both worlds?

You should run Carbon and PHosban. If you did not buy a reactor, you can go to bulkreefsupply and buy one there. It is a bit heavy and very well made. They have a divider so you can run both, in one reactor. Also, a must is to watch their videos on using a reactor and the benefits of carbon and phosban.

So use both...

Looks like a tough decision. I already have a two little fishes reactor and I do not want to add a second one being that i do not have a sump and all of this equipment is hanging on the back of my tank.

Can you mix the media and put something like a chemi pure elite unit in the reactor with carbon?
