I've always used a PUR triple filter on my tap with few drops of Prime in the water before I add it since I can't afford an RO system at the present. I was told from someone I trust that it's fine to do.

If you're going to use Poland Spring, at least use the distilled version rather than the spring water. If you can't afford an RO/DI unit at the moment the distilled will hold you over for a while. You can buy RO/DI water for ~$1/gallon at kmart, it's called "Smart Sense Purified Water." I bought a few jugs after I moved and didn't have my unit hooked up, it was a pretty sound investment.

I doubt that rain water would have zero tds. Anyway, to the OP, you can ask to see if anyone wants to sell you some RODI water to get things started....that would work so much better than buying bottled spring water...

Idk I would get an rodi unit but the water pressure at my apartment sucks. I live in a private house and the land lord has washer, dryers and dish washers so the pressure I get is crap. Example I installed a faucet filter for drinking water and it takes an hour to fill up a cup.. So I just buy rodi water instead.. Idk fish stores I been to charge $2 a gallon and petco charges $11 for real ocean water 5 gallons... The cheapest i have seen it is $1 a gallon at target. So what kind choices do I have?
