Many reefers' tank that are flourishing seems to be able to keep the parameters more stable than they are in the wild. Home reefs don't have pollutants and use pure water from RO/DI. If anything captive corals would be the first to die under more adverse conditions.

that's definitely one extreme where a reefer could keep the Temp, pH, and chemistry to a steady point without any flutuations... Most of us probably can't afford the technology to keep things that stable (and I am definitely one of them).... My temp fluctuates from 79-84, my pH goes from 8-8.4 and higher when i dose the 2 part calcium....not to mention the crap in the NYC air that probably gets dissolved into the water... Those are the corals i'm betting that could survive.

After your tank has been established for 5 billion years you will have had some instability also.

The most common cause of bleaching is high temperature. I'm not sure what type of corals you have, softies are most resilient, then LPS, and finally SPS. When the ocean temperature gets too hot, and stays hot, as you can imagine cooling down the ocean takes a lot longer then your fish tank.. it increases the length of time the corals are stressed
