Cloudy Water cause

Parameters last night:
PH 8.11
SG 52.1 ~1.026
KH 9
Mag 1275
Calc 420

Then I dosed Mag and Calc (no alk) and this morning my tank is cloudy, I also noticed my PH was down to 7.9 which it never hits even overnight.

So right away I dosed some Alk (B-ionic part1 only), the PH is back up but it doesn't seemed to have helped the cloudiness.

I tested my parameters again and now they are:
PH 8.08
SG 52.8 ~1.026
KH 12
Mag 1365
Calc 420

I didn't intend for my Mag to raise that quickly... maybe I dosed too much Mag and not enough Calc, or the other way around? Any ideas?

Just did a 9 gallon water change but it didn't seem to help with the cloudiness that much. All I put in the RO/DI water was salt... nothing else yet until hopefully someone else here can help me.

Are you running carbon ? . How long has the tank been running whats your live stock?.

Yes I have carbon and it's not that old... tank has been up since April... I'm pretty sure this is a dosing problem as everything has been good lately and it happened overnight. Maybe it has to do with the ionic balance?

Why did you dose Ca & Mg this morning if those were your parameters from last night??
There was nothing 'off' about your parameters (ok, Mg was a little low, but you definitely overdid the dosing there) that you should have needed to dose.


Was the tank cloudy prior to your dosing - or only after you added the Ca?

Frankly, I'd leave the tank alone and let it stablize for a few days and test again on Tuesday or Wednesday and then post your parameters.
There is no good cause to sweat a tiny change in pH (swings are FAR more dangerous than trying go get a pH level up from 7.9 - which in the general scheme of things is not terrible) and start dosing hoping to raise it. Your consistent regular water changes will take care of that - in a GENTLE way.

What corals are in this tank and are there a LOT of them that use Ca?

I've been dosing mag to get it to 1350, originally from about 1000. Yes, the cloudiness only appeared after dosing the mag and calc last night...

I only have a few soft corals (star, button, duncan, torch) nothing taking huge amounts of calc yet...

if u raise your mag too fast it will do that to your water and also u will see some slime
