Can I put GFO in a bag in the back sump? I have a Solana tank and was thinking about using GFO in a mesh bag in the middle chamber. Will it be less effective than using an reactor? Please share your opinions on this issue. Thanks

if u use gfo in a bag try to get the pellets then put them in a sock with hi water flow through it. What size tank is it that you have? You can get a reactor for 34 dollars and a maxi jet for 25 dollars and this will be much more effective.

gfo (or any media really) is not as effective in a bag compared to a reactor but it works fine in a mesh bag. you could even just use a bag of chemipure elite. its not that great but it works well enough as long as you change it every month or so.

BRS has pellet GFO for that kind of use. GFO is much more effective in a reactor but using a reactor with a Solana is a bit of a pain unless you set it up as an HOB. I have a reactor on the bottom shelf of my stock Solana cabinet with what I think is a fairly ok setup. If you're hesitant about a reactor I would suggest you try the GFO pellets. For a media bag of GFO pellets, the second chamber would be better than the third as it has better flow but with the solana you need to pay attention to the flow through the second chamber. If the media in the 2nd chamber starts to clog it will cause a difference in water levels between the 2nd and 3rd chambers which will mess up your ATO.

Like everyone else has said, gfo can be used in a mesh bag, just put it in an aread with constant flow. As for me, I use it in reactors, with another pund or so in a mesh bag in my sump.
