Deep Sand Bed Poll - do you have one?

I've spent the last few days researching deep sand beds as a means of nutrient extraction... And honestly, I'm pretty split on what I want to do. A lot of the research and debate that I've come across doing searches on this forum and others seems to be dated.

I'm pretty sure I don't want to do a DSB in my display, because I feel it eats up too much room in a 75 gallon... And I'd prefer more coarse substrate than DSB's demand, so that I can keep burrowing species (pistols/gobies)...

So I'm considering a DSB in my sump/fuge, which will be almost half of a 40B. I think I understand the benefits well enough, so I'm not trying to spark a debate... I'm just curious how popular remote DSB's are for people on MR.

nope i run around 2-3" few good articles out on deep sand beds and issues with them down the road

I run 2-3 inches on my sump plus another 5 inches ( almost half of container), unlit, in a 32 g refuse container plumbed altogether. I have this set up for more than a year now.

I have about 3" overall. When I first set up my tank, I used coarse crushed coral. Eventually, I added some aragonite...smaller grain size, but not oolite size. Finally, I added ESV oolite and Southdown (I can't see any difference between them). No longer any need to add anything now. Superficially, it just looks like oolite. The sand is full of life...spaghetti worms poking out of every square cm. I'm perfectly happy with this arrangement.

Deep sand bed will cause problem down the road 2-3 inch is good

Seems like all my livestock keep shoving it around so it's deeper in places.
I also switched from CC to finer grained sand.
