Canister filter in s soft coral tank?

I'm starting a 45 gallon rimless tank that's not reef ready for soft corals, was wondering if it was a good idea to use a canister filter instead of a sump?

i ran a eheim canister on my old tank that wasn't reef ready just put carbon and purigen in it. its not a bad idea but it starts to become a pain to clean ever week or two. you can get a hob refugeium on here used for cheaper then a canister thats prob a better idea

So run purigen instead of biomax or both?

yeh i just ran purgien and either carbon pellets or chemi pure elite in a filter bag and some filter floss
