I have yet to read mention that the water you add to your tank in a water change has to be the same pH as the water innyour tank. I try to match it exactly but was told by a friend that if your total alkalinity (buffering) is good that the pH will stay at 8.3. I have a 120 gallon tank and change 20 gallons monthly. Should I buffer or otherwise change the pH of my exchange water?

Wow less than 20% monthly?

If your using the same water to make your salt mix for a water change and you take care in mixing it up I would think the PH should be close enough that it wouldn't have that great an impact..

More like 25% considering it is a 120 gallon tank but my live rock takes up about 20+ gallons in volume. Still, I am no expert. What percent do you change and how often?

Thanks for your response.
