Im a bit confused ! Why do you need a pump for this overflow? Is it just a return pump ? Cause I have mine and if the pump fails it's set break the vacuum through a slice I put into the return stem and if water continues from the over flow , it's set to hold that return water and not overflow the sump! I'm a bit confused about what happened to this guy!?

I don't get the cpr overflows why do you need to use a pump? Just an added expense and could break the siphon without notice if youre not home. I would never use something like that. I have a eshopps overflow with a U tube it's been 2 years and I've never lost a siphon. Just suck the air out and air will never get back in no matter how many power failures.

It is a hang on overflow so it depends on the tube being full of water to work. If you lose the water in the tube then the return pump keeps filling the tank and water will not overflow into the box, it will just end up on the carpet. The aqualifter maintains the pressure in the tube by sucking out a small bit constantly.

I hate those things.

I was using the hang on back overflow box that uses the Aqualifter vacuum pump i was going to change the pump because it has been a year since i replaced it. what happened was that the small tube line that goes into the sump pump some how came out. this caused the syphon to break on the overflow box so water was coming in to the tank but not draining through the overflow. I changed this overflow box from the regular one beacause i read it was safer, i never had a problem with the older one other than getting some air in the u tube which i would suck air out and no problem. I just bought a new overflow box Cpr no continous flow anything no need for an aqualifter. At the moment tank is running with just powerheads waiting for delivery to get here. I couldnt find a decent over flow box within a reasonable price in any store i went to on saturday.

The CPR over flows work the same as the all other over flows. Only it adds one extra feature where you can (if you want) add an aqualifter to A) start the syphon and B) to keep working 24/7 to as it sucks air out of the overflow. Air bubbles collecting in the utubes is what causes loss of syphon in the first place.

More pumps = more problems.

If you cant keep air bubbles out of you tubes then you may need a larger in-tank portion of the overflow box. The larger that piece is the less turbulance you would have and the less air bubbles that could get trapped in the tube.
Consider this, those bubbles should be collecting over the course of days and you should be able to see them accumulating and clear them often.

Reef ready is really the way to go though.

i agree Reef ready is the way to go but im affraid i would be served with divorced papers if i go that way at this point. Another flow box and lots of prayer it is for me. @ Flytek i always cleared the tube from any airbubbles never had a problem. i changed it because i heard of the continous flow boxes with the Aqualifters being safer to run. i guess i was careless and didnt make sure the line that goes into sump was secure so that it would not fall out. I am 100% sure that was the cause. I guess this is just a tale of caution for someone else out there. @ Afernandez Thanks alot buddy.
