Hi Guys,

So I was looking to add a snowflake eel to my tank in the next few weeks and it dawned on me that it may be problematic after the acclimation process is done to actually get said eel into my tank. My thoughts were to use the 5 gallon bucket I use for water changes for the acclimation process but after that, how would I get the eel into my tank? Seems a bit tricky to someone who has never owned one before.

Experienced feedback would be most helpful.

You can just use the 5 gal bucket and acclimate but using drip system from ur tank water. And after the bucket is more the double the mount of water the eel come in u can just dump it back into the tank.

I had an Oodinium outbreak which is causing me to redo my tank, which is why I have a fear of adding someone else's water. I also have two cats who would love if the eel didn't make it into the tank and ended up on the carpet before reaching it's intended destination.

I guess I could pick up a larger net then my current one but I guess I kind of envision it just bailing as soon as lifted the net from the bucket.

Yeah so i dont blame you for not putting ur lfs water..i would just put ur cats in a room till the eel is in the tank.. Just a heads up make use you have a cover for ur tank cuz i have one that ended up on the floor for about 15 min. I was thinking it was dead. But as i was picking it up it was still alive. So i dumped it back into the tank .. After about 1/2 hour it was smimming like nothing ever happen. True story!!!

Haha... Yeah. I've read the horror stories. I plan on getting a tight fitting lid before getting the eel. Like I said, I'm a few weeks away yet. I just figured I would ask ahead of time so I knew what I was getting into.

My plan is to do a large (3/4 or more) water change. remove the crushed coral as my substrate. Add a live sand bed. Add back my live rock. wait to see if any levels spike. get my tight fitting lid and - then add the snowflake. After a few weeks I plan on just having him and two dwarf zebra lions.

Thanks! I want to be completely sure I have rid my tank of the Oodinium before obviously adding anything else to the tank. I thought that doing a 3/4 water change would help with that. I still have 3 chromis in the tank currently, along with a feather duster and hermits, snails...

I hope to salvage what I can out of them even if they only end up becoming food for the next livestock.
