As long as pump is under the water, both skimmer will work. but I am not sure 8" of lifting water to the skimmer will perform properly. I would put that skimmer back of the tank.

I would say they are pretty much same.
Prizm is bit smaller and pretty easy to work with, only thing is when you empty out the waste collector, you have to dial it to proper water level, otherwise it won't skim or overskim. I guess when you get used to it, you will know the sweet spot. I had this skimmer for my old 30G tank, which was my first tank.

CPR is little bit bigger and very easy to empty out the waste collector cup. but it was bit hard for me to find best height to good skimming for couple days. After that I didn't have a problems. I had this for my old 55G tank (some softy and 5 fishes)

Like gforce6 stated, you can hang the CPR on the edge of the sump. If the pump does not reach the water level, you'd have to extend the piping it's attached to using 5/8" tubing (I believe). In doing so, you'd lose performance due to head loss.

Bakpak in sump

If she must have a hang-on (cheaper) skimmer, buy a Bakpak or Remora, some tubing and a stronger pump. The stronger pump will make up for any head loss the extra tubing will create.
