  1. Voss Dosing Bottle Stand/Wall Mount

I like the customization and ability to hang. Also, having taller size can save space. I have a 3 doser container that is nice but is bulky. Also, mine is limited to 3 containers. Got mine from Amazon. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Low nitrate and phosphate

...What do you mean by check on my clean up crew I have probably 5 blue leg hermit crabs and 4-6 nassarius snails. I had closer to 15 crabs as well as about 10 astrea snails but most have died. Assuming low nutrients is the culprit.... I increased my clean up crew and replenish them every few...
  3. Low nitrate and phosphate

You mentioned you are receiving very low readings on nitrate and phosphates. Since you are getting algae, algae may be consuming your nutrients. As an aside, not sure what test you are using for phosphates. I hated using Salfiert because it was difficult to validate the color differences. I...
  4. Vodka dosing

Dosage depends on tank and whether you carbon dose with which product, such as vodka, sugar, vinegar or vendor product. I liked to read older article by Randy Holmes from Reef Central to gain knowledge and know how much to dose. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Vodka dosing

It took weeks to go down. Then u cut in half. I noticed when it went down to almost nothing. Funny thing, i have a new tank a little over a year and saw my nitrates went way up. I realized my doser went out on me. I have do all over again. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  7. Desktop Reef Tanks!

Cool thread. Years ago I put a full size tank in my office. When I moved to the city, I put a nano tank in my apartment (not a desktop). However, I ended up putting over time, a full setup of equipment. So was not my idea and vision. Just worked well after getting kinks out. I will be looking...
  8. Which RODI to buy for NYC for a nano tank

I picked the one I mentioned. 100 gpd 4 stage from Aquatic LIfe. Not very small, however, I love the easy change cartridge without using a tool. I ended up putting on a 3 TDS meter adapter, so I can tell when a cartridge starts to fade. One negative, is that when building cleaned the water...
  9. Vodka dosing

Carbon dosing used to lower nitrates, phosphates not so much or not at all... In carbon dosing, you are creating bacteria to feed and consume the bad stuff. You must have excellent water flow with strong aeration and good skimmer. If you overdose, then fish will react like they are gulping air...
  10. calibration fluid for a Refractometer

I actually compared using a calibration solution and then rodi water. Got same result for calibration. Even if it is off a little bit, the concern is consistency.
  11. Salifert Phosphate Test Kit Information

I used the Salifert test kit for years and I hate it. So difficult for me to judge the color. I love the Hanna tester. So much easier. Just look at the number...
  12. Salifert & Hanna ULR Phosphate Comparison

I was sick of Salifert testing for Phospates looking at a color chart. I love the Hanna ULR. My only negative is to make sure I do the testing quickly or the timer runs out. As far as accuracy, BRS has done nice videos on comparisons, etc.
  13. water change question

I try to match all parms. Over the years, I learned to do very slow water changes. Much less stress on the tank. I try for larger water changes done weekly.
  14. Vodka dosing

For me, I dose with vinegar with good success. Years ago, I switched from Vodka because it seemed cheaper. Both had good results. Remember, to figure out what is your goal that you are trying to achieve. For me, it's just to lower nitrates. however, water changes are still done weekly. Using a...
  15. High Nitrates

For high nitrates I does with carbon. Takes a while to work, but corals perk up. You can read about it, if you want to go that route. However, make sure not to dose on the high side. Reef central has Randy who is an expert on chemistry if you want to start there. Also, recommend frequent water...
  16. Refractometer Calibration

Buying calibration fluid is not necessary, just get rodi water and set refractometer to 0. As a test, I tested with calibration solution and rodi water and got the same result.
  17. Brown hair algae problem

In programming there is a famous saying, "garbage in, garbage out". Every tank should use the best water possible. RODI is the way to go.... Then as you said, you have to keep on trying to improve your setup. It's a learning process. Focusing on various items. Phosphates, lighting, feeding...
  18. Help with parms for my Nano tank

Finally, success with my 10 gallon nano tank. After more than 1 year, happy with my tank. SPS and softies doing well. Lessons learned... Major issue was my hair and bubble algae. What made the success. Yellow tang is a munching machine (thanks so much to John70) and a good clean up crew...
  19. Montipora disease

Since you can see the hair algae, it does still look like an issue. I have tried numerous solutions and for a while Vibrant worked. What did the trick in the long run, is a yellow tang and good clean up crew. However, long hair algae may not be touched by the crean up crew. Once hair algae...
  20. Budget reef

Coraline definetely, not a new tank start.... lol.
