  1. Help needed!!!

Looks like a bleached pavona. Try feeding it cyclop-eez?
  2. Freebie Thread 2

Zebrasoma genus tangs have a rep for eating small bubble algae. I've heard tell of naso tangs doing the same, but only once they're larger.
  3. Help overdose

Water changes are about the only thing you can do to correct a potassium overdose, unfortunately.
  4. Please ID this snail

... Definitely not a stomatella. It's a turbinid snail of some sort. It does have bands, but the angle of the shell appears to be significantly steeper than that of your standard banded trochus, so I'm gonna guess that it's some sort of Astraea. In any case, algae eater and a keeper. :)
  5. long week drunk

Is that when if you miss, you take a shot, and then Klaus next door hops in his family Panzerwagon, blows the hell out of your house, and then drinks all your booze? ;)
  6. The Everything you need to know about the swap thread--prattreef version.

Bah, real men frag with their TEETH! ...They also die very young of palytoxin poisoning, but hey.
  7. Current Stocklist for the Swap

Pink-Streaked Pygmy Wrasse (Pseudocheilinus ataenia) Been looking for one of these for a while. How much?
  8. Ich -- current best treatment?

Update: I got a better look at the fish, and it looks like most of the white spots might just be due to damage to the fins from cramming itself in a hole in the rock -- it's just white spots on the fish. On the other hand, there -are- a couple of things that could be ich cysts on a couple of...
  9. Ich -- current best treatment?

It's eating better -- it only recently stopped hiding. I've already started mixing in a part of a clove of crushed garlic with its food. However, I'm still investigating using another, more proven method to eliminate the ich. Still, it can't hurt, and now instead of mysid shrimp, my fingers...
  10. Ich -- current best treatment?

The problem's that the information is a real pain in the arse to find, since 'ich' is apparently too short of a term for the search engine to parse.
  11. Ich -- current best treatment?

Yeah. It's basically my old reef tank; I'm switching over to a 65. The only thing left is the sand, snails, some LR, and a few corals I hadn't bothered to take out yet, but which I could easily remove. Still, I was hoping to avoid a copper treatment. *sigh* Been doing some research, and I...
  12. Ich -- current best treatment?

Heya. So, the hippo tang I bought two days ago, which appeared perfectly healthy, has now come down with ich. It's in QT in my old reef tank (which has had most of the organisms moved out of it, and all the fish,) along with two flasher wrasses I bought at the same time, neither of which is...
  13. Uv

UV sterilizers can be great to prevent the spread of ich and to help fight it while you're taking other measures. However, there isn't any real reason to keep one running all the time, as it'll also decimate your algal and plankton populations. The first thing to do is to identify the problem...
  14. Swap advice?

Just wondering what y'all're doing. I'm going to bring an insulated container and some heat packs and a thermometer; I'm assuming bagged corals from other swap members should be pretty much OK in their bags for the duration of the swap, so long as they're kept at a stable temp. Anybody got any...
  15. The best way to add sand to existing tank?

Oh, as far as the cyano, what's your Magnesium? I've found that a lot of times bumping it up to about 1300 does wonders to eliminate cyano.
  16. filter overkill?

POwer/canister filters are generally viewed as something more for freshwater or temporary saltwater use (say, during display at a swap) than for permanant reef use. While there are some people who apparently use them successfully, they're rare on reef aquaria. There're a number of reasons, but...
  17. New ORA clown Strains

Remember -- clownfish are damselfish. :) I personally agree -- except for the lightning clown, I haven't seen any of these mutants that really appeal to me, but, eh, people like 'em, people buy 'em, and since (barring the original broodstock collection) it has no impact on wild populations, I...
  18. The best way to add sand to existing tank?

Just rinse the sand with water from a WC if it's real live sand, or RO water if it's just sand-inna-bag, and dump off the cloudy excess. Put the sand in a plastic bag, lower it to where you want it in the tank, and cut a slit in the bottom of the bag with a razor. Make sure there's as little...
  19. Fish seem to be gasping?

Yeah, I suggest watching the parameters, doing another WC, and then watching the parameters some more. If the nitrite isn't going down you've got a dead fish wedged in your rocks, and if it's the sixline you'll prolly never find the damned thing. But if you've removed the problem, your...
  20. Marco Rocks

Yeah. They've gotten much, much better as of late, and the pre-cooked rock didn't spike either my nitrates or my phosphates. The rock itself is really wonderful, too, lacy and full of holes and crevices.
