Just changed both my carbon and GFO on my sps dominated reef.

Esv carbon states

1 fl oz for every 5 gallons if your not skimming And

1/2 fluid once per 5 gallons if your skimming.

I'm not skimming but it seemed like way to much carbon for my 25 gallon setup. So I followed their recommendations as if I am skimming and followed the 1/2 fluid ounce rule and even used a little less than that.

(I used 2 fl ounce for 25gallon reef)

Today I also changed GFO

I read the BRS instructions an decided to go with half the recommended dose. Today was my first time using brs as I normally use rowa phos. My phosphate reactor has been offline for around a month because I removed all my fish for treatment.

I did a water change and have zero polyp extension for the past 2 hours.

I always get nervous with my tank when I change my carbon/gfo mainly because my water volume is so little.

I rinsed both the carbon and gfo, and ran them both in my old water change water for 5 minutes before setting on my tank.

Anyone else experience this upon media changes?

Just curious..

I use the ESV carbon, it's very good. I use the same amount you use and I have a 120 gallon tank. No problems at all. As far as GFO, I stopped using that. I switched to NPX Biopellets and that's working great. GFO needs to be switched every 30 days or so. The Biopellets are a set and forget kind of thing. GFo is less forgiving IMO. Hope this helps.
