"Aquarium Corals" by Eric Borneman is sort of the bible of all corals. It has all the info you described. Other than that, asking us lots of questions helps too. Lots of our members keep SPS corals in their tanks.

It might not be the most hobbyist oriented, by Veron's 3 volume "Corals of the World" is also a pretty neat set to have. And of course, they're Veron's original, well-known (but a little outdated) Corals of Australia and the Indo-Pacific.

I have had Erics book for awhile now it is very good. I just got Corals of the World a month ago and am amazed at its great information. It shows you different growth patterns of the same coral at different parts of the reef along with skeletal photos and explaination on how to differenciate different speices. GREAT books!
