Not all SPS "need" MH. I have been growing several types under VHO for almost three years. With Non-MH or under powered MH you have to make certian alotments. Only cetian species can be kept under the less intense light. The monti. digi. you have is a good example. Not to mention monti. cap. A few acros can also be grown, generally the green and brown colors. Bright colors are harder to keep. The SPS needs to be close to the light. All of mine are less thatn 18" away. SPS that are captave grown under reduced lighting fair better that wild caught and a frag that comes from a MH tank. Calcium and Alk are a must from SPS and LPS, regardless of your lighting. IF you are looking to add other SPS try green monti digi, orange or green monti cap.

SPS don't need MH to survive... but some need MH to keep their color.. unless you like brown SPS... in addition, they tend to grow slower under non-MH lighting no matter how much calc you add..

The Acropora sp known as "Green Bali Slimer" (I see it called A. yongei) keeps its bright green color surprisingly well under PC lighting.

Yup! That was my first SPS when I used to run PC's. That M. Digitata would turn to a bright orange under MH's.

I had a nice green tipped seriatopora that looked and grew just the same under MH and VHO.

I do not think the pink seriatopora would do well under PC. I have a green with purple tip acro that is doing great under VHO.

I have 2 monti digitata, 2 monit caps, and 1 blue/purple tipped stag that are all growing well under 70w MH with normal output supplementation in a 20H. I consider my lighting to be on the rather low side as well.
And it was alot cheaper than my old pc fixture from JBJ.

I have both green and red M.digitata growing under MHs. My Ca levels are consitantly b/w 400-450 and their growth is incredible. However, my greens have stayed green and my reds(orange) have stayed orange, and they are both at the same light levels. I've had them for about 7 months.

They look like big frags. Have you considered using super glue gel instead of epoxy. I find epoxy takes much longer for the coral to encrust over and coraline to cover then super glue gel.

Eduardo,

Nice frags. I also prefer super glue gel. Much less of an eyesore. It seems like you've got some build-up at the water surface. If so, you'll want to increase circulation and maybe point a powerhead across the surface. It's just as important as lighting.
