IMHO, it depends on the starting color. Most of the acans/echinos I have are pretty much the same color as when I received them, and moving them up/down made no difference. Len, if you're looking for a solid pink, cheap coral, then grab that Atlantis hot pink chalice. It's really nice. They have alien eye chalices for cheap now, too...around $40.
I've got all the chalices I want except that watermelon that everyone wants Some chalices are pretty, but the sweeper tentacles are a deal breaker. I'd rather have a nice Monti, to tell you the truth.
Atlantis never returns my emails, even on huge orders. I've given up on them.
Hmm, forgot to ask a related question. Suppose I have some "multicolored" Acan echinata that have bright orange, green, and darkish red/brown all over. Those patterns won't change with different conditions? Will the new grow continue to be multicolored?
IMO color can vary and change a lot. I have a Acan Rotundoflora that is Red with green eyes in my system but orange in my friends. I also have a Rainbow echinta that is darker red now and it was a pale blue green when I first got it. An yes new growth will multi colored if the parent colony is that way
I'm finding my A.subechiniata is developing a more intense neon green and each polyp is getting neon orange centers as time goes by. Very cool!
I still can't believe the explosion of coral variety available now. When I stopped buying livestock ~5 years ago, there were no acans and no one cared about blastos or chalice-type corals. Boy, how times have changed.
