Refurbishing my used Solana 34

Pic intensive, setting up a Nano Reef and Fish Tank, please let me know what kind of substrate to use, also I'm debating on which light to get, I want either Ai vega color or the Radions what do you think ?

I just got it so I will now check for leaks , and start cleaning the old coralline build up on the back of the tank

Ok so after 4 hours of cleaning the tank it's looking much better

I am slowly filling the tank w saltwater now 14 gallons down 20 to go, slow RO/DI unit.

Is it ok if I put the rocks in now, fill with water and then put in the substrate ( not fine sand) using 1.0 to 2.0 size special aragonite. I would of done it okay but it still hasn't arrived .

I have the Radion on my tank and I really like it.

The tank looks a lot better now... You might want to move that dart board though.

I would really like to do a unique aqua scape using acrylic rods or PVC I have most of the tools I'm just debating what rocks to use

I have a Radion over my Solana, yep. It works great.

Best thing I ever did to that tank was move the return loclines to the top. That tank would've still been with me now if I didn't win my current setup. That tank is pretty straight forward, you can run skimmerless as long as you keep up with your WC and run some type of media for PO4 removal. Also, if you decided to use a MP10 and don't wanna place it on the side glass, you can get a dry box for the middle chamber.

Thanks man , congrats on the win!! Lucky you, I just ordered 60 lbs of Tropic Eden Mini Flakes $80, looking to do a 3" sand bed. Also ordered some 1/2" fiberglass rods for aqua scape $10.

Also would you recommend buying a GFO/carbon reactor or just placing media bags in that middle chamber? My previous set up 8 gallon I ran without using anything except 10% every 2 week WC but that won't cut it here

I used media bags and it worked fine. Some people have it hanging in the back but it looks kinda ugly..

Ok cool, I'm just terrified of hair algae I couldn't get rid of it in my previous tank that's why I was considering a GFO reactor. Do u think I should throw away those rocks w algae on it from my last tank or its ok?

I'd start fresh... it's a small tank, so it won't be that much $$ to get enough rocks for it.
