i got my rocks today. 35lbs. i got some few questions. i think 1 or 2 of them are dead and 3rd one is alive. when i shake one of the dead rock, all these sponges were coming out and the water became cloudy. how can i know if they are alive?

Let the rock complete your cycle. You could put a small pinch of food in there to help jumpstart the cycle. It will have the same effect as the shrimp but the tank will cycle without it.

I wouldn't adjust the flow from the return pump, what I did was run a Tee right where you have the ball valve going up to the tank to another ballvalve then back to the sump. This way if there's too much water going up to the tank you can just divert some of it back to the sump. I think this way will extend the life of the return pump.

Also, why is your pump in a bucket? With water?

Well it would seem to me that the return pump is in tank/sump only and he doesn't have the room needed in sump; Thus the pink container is an extension of the sump.
It also gives him the option of switching to an external pump when and if he wants one.

noddleman- im going to have fuge in there =) is there different purpose for different plants?

bigbris- i had quite problems with water returning more than draining, i did mentioned on the website for some help , however no one replied. Now, i have no problems with this pump. thanks for the tip!

i have the pump inside the that bucket because the threads connected to my pumps was leaking and had a good idea attaching a bucket with water in it seems good idea to me.

Monk- maybe ill go external pump in the future =)
