Are all members of this family plankton eaters? I have seen several species of this genus locally and wanted to know if they all are reef safe. Does anyone know for sure? Thanks!

i don't know for sure all of the Genicanthus are plankton feeders, but i can assure you my G. caudovitatus is not going after any coral and is a very peacefull fish. I remenber Randy Donowitz having a G. melanospilos in a a heavily stocked 125 AGA without any problem.

I have a male and female G. melanospilos in my 415 gallon reef with softies, LPS & SPS and haven't seen them pic one time. I would probably consider these fish more "reef safe" than most tangs. My experience only.

yep,

very peacefull fish.
mine, G. caudovitatus get along very well with a Odonus Niger, a Zebrasoma desjardini, a Zebrasoma flavescens and one A. hepatus.
never been involved in some fight of some sort and none of the other fish goes after it!
Tank is mainly stocked with SPS and few LPS.
