Help starting cycle

What's the most efficient way to begin my cycle? I've only had one previous tank and I wouldn't necessarily call it a success. I'm starting a 50breeder with a 20gal sump.

Raw shrimp in a media bag or pantyhose into your tank for a week or two.

and that completes the cycle? Only 2 weeks?

You have to test your perameters when your tank cycles your params will spike up then level out each tank is different and you can't give an exact amount of time as each situation is going to be different. They also sell chemicals that cycle your tank for you I've heard good things about them but never actually used them so can't comment from experience

And i shouldn't put anything in the tank while it cycles. No fish/coral? and what about like some Purple UP, would that help?
