Have been reefing for 15 years and have had Sarcophyton leathers "travel" and leave behind progeny. But I now have one that is splitting vertically into two virtually identical animals. The process has been on going for a year and it is now almost complete.

Has anyone else ever seen this? Is it common? What caused it?

Leathers seem to do that on occasion. I can't really say why they do it, but they do. I've had it happen a couple of times on leathers myself.

Thanks for the confirmation reefman.

Now if only I could force my E.Quadricolor bubble tip to split! Darn thing has been in there for 6 years and has an oral disk ~10 inches. Fully opened, it spreads tip to tip 20+ inches... too big for the 75g tank. (
