If you are looking for a decent lens for your nikon, you should look into the 40mm 2.8G, 60mm 2.8g, 85mm 3.5g or 105mm 2.8g. Depending on your camera whether it be DX or an FX body. The 40 and 85mm are DX lenses and 60, 105mm are FX body lenses.

The 40mm 2.8g is the cheapest of the Nikon lens group, but will run you approx $270 new. This will have the focal view of a 60mm lens. Which would end up being a good starter lens to learn on. You can get really close to the glass as the minimum focusing distance on the lens is approximately 7". Highly recommended lens as I have one and use it for my DX body.
These do have a 1:1 ratio so you will be able to crop in and get some nice sized images of polyps.
