New to Site

Hi, new to site. I have a 180 reef established for 8 years built into a wall. I will send pictures, but I will add that I have a minimalist tank in terms of equipment; sump, powerful skimmer and a bunch of circulations pumps. I never do water tests, never added chemicals, and do water changes four times a year. My tank has flourished behind belief (although no hard corals). I attribute this to good live rock and adding items to the tank slowly.


Went to fishtown on Thursday and purchased a goby/pistol shrimp combo, after a day they found each other, pretty funny watching the shrimp bull doze the home, while the goby watches.

Another good vendor that I do not see listed is For Birds Only in Mineola, although it looks like a bird store, they have some very healthy looking coral tanks.

How much for the goby/pistol shrimp combo?
What kind of goby? Shrimp?
Any pictures?

Not sure, the goby was not a watchmen goby, more white and red banded, the shrimp was small and yellow

Sure, if you are coming west to east, it is right before Willis Avenue on Jericho Turnpike. He has about 5 tanks full of nice soft colors, mushrooms, etc. The best part is that his tanks have minimal equipment; basic floresent lights, protein skimmer. I never by from tanks that have MH lightening, calcium reactors, etc. I always feel the colors will never do as well in my tank. If you interested, there is another hidden place in Hicksville on Old Country road called Tropical Showcase. I live in Carle Place, and for laughs I go to Aqaurium Adventure, over priced and rude staff. Sometime I make believe I am new to the hobby to see what they would sell me!

Looks like that, except no big fin. Actually, the lobseter/shrimp is really making a big prokject, I sat there for 1/2 hour wathcing the construction work. Are these shrimp blind? The price at Fishtown was I think $35.00 for the both of them. I grew up in Bayside and have been going to Fishtown since I was 10. We should do some trivia to name all the pet shops that have closed. Does anyone remember Looking Glass aqaurium in Flushing? That was a great store, how about King Aquarium in Bay Terrace?
