just started my cycle have some hitch hikers im a little worried about. can you guys id them for me i think the first one is aiptasia but the the second dont know.

In my opinion if you just started cycling. I would take the two rocks out and boil em. Kill everything on them.

Where did you get those rocks from? Are your other rocks from the same source? Hopefully there aren't spores in the tank already.

Got some rocks from a fellow reefer but only those two rocks show the aiptasia

I would boil all the rocks I got from that person. Just in case.

I wouldnt, it will slow down your cycle.

I got 2 rocks with Aptasia on them from my LFS when i first built my tank, the rocks were already curated.

Boiling them will kill the die off that will help cycle your tank


get Aiptasia X and nuke em.

my tank is going on 4 months, don't have any aipatasia and tank is thriving.

you can pull the rock and coat that area with kalkwasser also

I'll boil the two rocks. if I see anymore ill get a peppermint shrimp to take care of the rest after the cycle. Don't want to use any chemicle in the tank

I had an Aiptasia outbreak and tried boiling my rock thinking the beneficial algae and bacteria might return with proper lighting and a couple lbs of seed rock, I was wrong! It could take years for the rock to be properly colonized again and in that time it will pump phosphates straight into the tank and probably cause a brown out (massive brown algae bloom). I am now replacing all my rock, DO NOT BOIL IT. You can however inject the Aiptasia with a syringe of boiling water, same effect on the Aiptasia without killing the rock.
