Purpose of extention tip with Hanna Alk Meter?

Hi All

Been using on of my new Hanna meters (in this case Alk) and I'm wondering what the long extension tip is for? I realize it's supposed to improve accuracy but how? And do you fill the syringe FIRST and then add the extension? Seems that having it on when drawing liquid will mean I'll have more than is indicated.

u put it on before you draw. The purpose is to compensate for the volume lost due to air bubble that is trapped inside the syringe when you draw.

So pull the plunger all the way out then and I have my 1ml?

pull the plunger till the tip of the black rubber lines up with the last marked black line of the syringe.
