Well I have now sucessfully added 5 fish to a tank that was at 1.009 from tanks that were 1.020 or above with no ill effects. This was done in 2 1/2 hours of acclimation. All fish are alive 30 days later.
I have read that you need to do this over a much longer period of time (2 - 3 days) ??? Was I just lucky? or is what I've read not applied any longer??
thanks

Just out of curiosity, why are you keeping your salinity so low? An anti-parasite precaution?

As to your question, I think it really depends on the fish. Something really hardy like most triggers can withstand a salinity swing, while something really fragile like some butterflies will flip their lids, so to speak, with even a moderate salinity change.
