I just got some Julian sprung's sea veggies from Premium Aquatics and it won't stay on the clip. I have tried two different style clips. It seems it falls apart near the clip within 30 minutes.

Any solutions? I used sea weed selects up until recently but couldn't find them online. They seem to hold together better.

Anyone with this problem? Any solutions? What shape do you cut out of the sheets? Do you fold it?

Thanks,

Ernie

Dear Ernie,

Which Sea Veggies did you try? The Green Seaweed should be comparable to what you were accustomed to using, though ours is denser and tastier.

If you got the Red Seaweed, that might explain what you saw. It becomes soft when it hydrates, which makes it a favorite of Zebrasoma tangs and large angelfish. I suggest you try feeding a smaller quantity.

You can also try the SeaVeggies Flakes, which are easy to feed- like flake food, no clip needed.

Sincerely,

Julian,

Thanks for the response. My tang definitely likes the stuff- it is the green. He seems to pick close to the clip, which is part of the problem. Feeding smaller quantities more frequently works when I am in town. I travel during the week, and my wife takes care of the tank when I am gone. She wants to know why "the (stupid) tang isn't satisfied with the twice daily feedings like the other fish."

I try to keep something in there for him to pick on as much as the time as possible. Are there any tricks for folding the seaweed to keep it in the clip better?

Thanks in advance,

Ernie

Thanks for the input. Here is what I am currently trying (Although the cigar thing sounds like a good idea!): I cut a sheet into strips that are 2"x3". I fold this in half so the resulting strip is 2"x1.5" and I use the sea veggies clip to clip it right in the middle so that the edges sticking out of the clip are basically uniform in size. This allows the tang to graze near the clip without tearing off huge chunks of seaweed. It seems to be working better.

Dear Ernie,

You can try rolling the sheet like a cigar- the thickness should keep it in place.

You might also try a SeaVeggies clip- it has a strong grip and if it becomes dislodged from the glass it floats.

E, get 2-4 of the clips and split a single serving into 4 small servings. place them in several places in the tank. I tried this and seems there are less waste this way. I've also tried soak in selcon to make them tastier, so tangs will finish faster.
