I just added quite a few astrea snails to my tank yesterday, and now three or four of them are cleaning the outside of my derasa's shell. Is this okay? If it's not okay, what can I do to stop them?

Christine.

Your clam will be fine. The Astrea snails in my reef climb on my Derasa all the time. The clam is so used to it now it doesn't even react.

The only time you may have a problem is if one climbs inside. The clam might damage it or itself.

you don't have to worry until you see rice grain sized whiite snails on the shell. I suspect these contributed to my maxima's demise. Upon reading I discovered these are predatory and lay egg masses on outside of shell. I saw a brown spongy mass but assumed it was a sponge. I only ever saw a couple. But once spotted, the clam was dead within a week!

Thanks. I was just checking. I don't want a dead clam on my hands.
