Good Morning all! I made 30 gallons of salt water on Sunday night and still haven't gotten to my water change - how long is reasonable for 'new' water to sit before it should go down the drain. I have a recirc pump and the water is up to temp.

Water willbe fine , I store for water for days , maybe over a week at some times , just make sure ur container ur storing the water isn't leaching chemicals into the water

What types of containers are best for keeping water?

Food grade plastic. Grey brute garbage cans from rubbermaid qualify. Depends how much water you want to make/store but old salt buckets work too.

I have had new salt water "stew" for a little over a week with no issues.

The only thing to keep in mind is to make sure it is being aerated (via a pump) and if you are storing it for that long the initial salinity may slip so definitely measure salinity before adding to the tank.

Salt water can sit forever. Don't even need to keep flow going. Nothing is going to happen to it except little buggers eventually growing in it.
