The Mother of Pearl Acropora develops a unique shimmering pearl-like pigment coloration. Branch tips tend to be purple, while corallites are bright blue. Polyp tentacles can be colored dark blue. Branch stems between corallites can be colored bright green. When exposed to bright light the pigments appear to develop an amazing sheen or luster. This shimmering luster explains how the Mother of Pearl Acropora was named. Photo and text courtesy of Reeffarmers.
