I found today on the glass what looked like a snowflake. It had 8 equal length straight arms that were about 1 mm in length. At the end of these there were little whips that were about as long as the leg. In the center was a small post. It didn't move over the hour that I watched it. The whole thing, was about 1.5 mm in diameter.

Any ideas out there?

A tiny crater in your glass? Maybe a tiny limpet? I don't really understand your description all that well (perhaps it's because it's almost 4AM here), but I don't think it will matter for long, as it appears from your pictures that your cleaner shrimp is doing some investigating.

I've had these on the glass of my tanks many times before. Never been able to figure out exactly what they were as they usually diappeared fairly quickly.

This morning it was gone. I think may be some sort of hydroid.

My guess is some type of foraminiferan or pseudopodian.
