This is a beautiful coral I got from a fellow reefkeeper in Lubbock, TX but I have never known what it is, definitely a type of SPS (Small Polyp Stony)

but
NOT Acropora
NOT Montipora
NOT Millipora

HELP!?!? -- by the way this is my FAVORITE CORAL!! Grows fast as ANYTHING!!

hi.
It looks like it is not an Acropora because the absent of the characteristic axial corallite, but there is nothing obvious why this can't be a Montipora. Why are you so sure?

I suppose it very well may be... The problem is the shape it is attempting although I have such a small piece I should really hold my judgement until it gets a little larger, also it is a lot more TOXIC in its sting compared to other montipora which are very WEAK in their sting...

total size of this coral is only 3"-3.5" across...

P.S. picture was taken with Sony DSC F707 5MP Dig Cam -- Nice camera!

Has the polyps of a montipora or porites. I'm leaning to montipora due to its lack of skeletal uniqueness. I have one that sorta kinda but not really resembles it...

it is funny that I had never thought this could be a montipora, but I suppose there is no good reason for that!!

Wave the polyps down to show skeletal characteristics.
Then post another couple of photos, including closeups.
Maybe we can narrow it down a bit for you.
Try both with and without that on-camera flash...
